What are your thoughts on Carbon Emission Trading? I’m not well versed in this area, but I feel if there isn’t any concrete market-based incentives i.e., tax-reductions, development of revenue-streams, etc. then participation doesn’t seem desirable. The carbon trading idea seems to be a great exercise in a framework designed around regulations i.e., Kyoto, as one would figure that paying to purchase emission credits merely adds to a company’s overhead expenses. Adding further substance, I feel that companies participating in carbon trading schemes seem to resemble a group of individuals passing around a ball, the analogy being that nothing is accomplished except that one company passes off its pollution burden to another.

Cap-and-trading mechanisms seems to be on the rise in the US in terms of mounting support by both the Democarts and the GOP. It appears in this context that issues of national security, nature and morality play heavily into enviornmental concerns.
