The British Columbia government (Canadian province) announced that they intend to make their government the first “carbon-neutral” administration in North America by 2010. Is this announcment full of hot air or is it going to prevail?

Can a 33% emissions reduction be achieved in BC by 2020? I do my part to conserve energy in my home, drive a fuel-efficient vehicle and walk whenever possible. Are these steps enough for the average person to reduce their emissions output?
In today’s Vancouver Sun (Feb.28/07) there is talks for developing strict energy consumption measures for both individuals and companies so that the province can be self-sufficient in electricity by 2016. Conservation is the underlying theme for consumers, while new buildings codes to include green roofs, energy efficient heating and A/C units to name a few are among the efforts to be expected in reaching these goals.
