A Russian research vessel is on its way from the northern port of Murmansk to place a capsule containing a Russian flag on the seabed of the Arctic Ocean at the North Pole. The purpose for this exercise is to demonstrate Russia’s claim to a sizeable portion of the continental self as it’s believed close to a quarter of the world’s undiscovered energy deposits lie in the seabed of the Arctic Ocean. The research team intends to use a mini-sub to place the capsule on the seabed.
