Feedback loop…

I was shocked when I came across an article on the Reuters website earlier today (see below post) which noted that NASA research scientists believe a tipping-point has emerged in relation to the record melt year of Arctic sea ice.  This news is very disturbing when considering the severity of a tipping-point.  For those not familiar with this term it’s pretty easy to follow; this past September Arctic sea ice melt was in the area of 1,000,000 square kilometers above the 2005 previous record melt year and due to a melt-trend recorded with accuracy since the late 1970s, NASA scientists believe that the summer melt season rate will exceed that of the winter growth season from now on.  That being said, the sea ice-albedo feedback loop (open water as opposed to snow covered sea ice) will in turn amplify the melt season and effectively accelerate the global climate change phenomenon…
