Petro-Canada’s CEO said on Wednesday that the oil company is looking to exercise its Arctic hydrocarbon reserves in the coming years — no solution has yet to be brought forward.  Issues relating to a longer shipping season through the Northwest Passage and advancements in Liquefied Natural Gas transportation techniques are measures of consideration.  Petro-Canada has a sizable stake to gas fields on Melville Island — close proximity to the Northwest Passage.
