A new report compiled by the World Wildlife Fund was presented to the Arctic Council (an inter-governmental organization consisting of the eight Arctic nations — see Arctic Council for further info.) this past week and highlighted growing concern that the Arctic environment maybe changing at a more accelerated rate than previously thought. Of concern is the notion of an ice-free Arctic by 2100 being inaccurate, as current measurements indicate that melting rate has acclerated by 30 years. The report is developed from various research sources since the monumental 2005 Arctic Climate Impact Assessment Report and material not incorporated in the 2007 United Nation’s Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change report.
